Education and Teaching Experience

Dr. Kalb received her BA at Barnard College, Columbia University and her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Adelphi University’s Derner Institute. She graduated with honors from both. Dr. Kalb was a Clinical Instructor in Psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NY and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at University of California, Davis – School of Medicine. As a clinical faculty member, Dr. Kalb supervised and taught medical students, psychology graduate interns and psychiatry residents in inpatient psychiatric settings. She has provided supervision to trainees and to other licensed therapists in the Bay Area. 

Clinical Background

Dr. Kalb has been in private practice for over twenty years. She works with adolescents, adults, couples and families, providing short term, solution oriented therapy as well as longer term work aimed at resolving inner conflicts.

With extensive training and experience in several theories, Dr. Kalb draws from a deep toolbox when working with clients. She has a down to earth, collaborative style. In crafting a treatment plan tailored to meet your individual needs, she’ll use empathy, insight, humor and her fundamental conviction that all of us share an instinct towards growth and development.

Theoretical Orientation

Dr. Kalb has broad experience and training in several orientations but is wedded to none. She is guided instead by the needs and strengths of her individual clients, drawing from what will be effective with them in particular. 

Among the orientations she is informed by are Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Meditation, and Positive Psychology.
